'There's a bit of a scene around Colchester at the moment, The
place that once was home to Damon Albarn has loads of new and
talented bands. FuzzFace stand out. Their album Are We Nearly
There Yet? has a 60s and early 70s feel with energetic nods
to The Who, The Small Faces, Rod era Faces, The Kinks and freakbeat.
'The Idiot Country Boy' is the missing link between 60s psychedelia
and 90s baggy while 'Norristown' with its Jimmy Smith style wild
organ and jangling, fractured guitar sound is like Paul Weller's
band doing Booker T & the MGs, 'Someone Else' has the energy
of the Libertines, with the quirkyness of early Blur and the Monkees
perfectly distilled. 'Peeping Tom' is like an early incarnation
of David Bowie fronting the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Live, FuzzFace
have a fearsome reputation. Now watch them take London by storm.'

Noel and Liam continue to dish up insipid derivative rock like
a Fifties housewife clinging to a lard cookbook, Colchester band
FuzzFace are busy using the past to create a very tasty future
for themselves.
There's no denying the influences on Are We Nearly There Yet?
A Kinks/Small Faces songwriting sentiment, Mod rhythms and a Cream
cool dominate throughout but FuzzFace clearly never get lost in
the nostalgia. There's lightness and humour here reminiscent of
I Should Coco and songs like Special and Bide Your Time are blessed
with a brilliant Strokes air. No wonder the recent album launch
gig was a sell-out at Colchester Arts Centre. A most welcome and
kitsch-free blast from the past.'
